Council adopts new Fairfield Cemetery ordinance and strikes redundant resolution

Council members reviewed a pulled consent resolution that had duplicated standards already contained in the new ordinance. After confirming plot dimensions and related standards are set in the ordinance text, the council decided not to adopt the redundant resolution and instead approved the corrected resolution R2025‑19 that establishes cemetery policies and procedures consistent with the ordinance.
"Everything that was in that resolution was already in the ordinance," the chair (Speaker 1) said while explaining the change. Council members confirmed that the ordinance includes specifications for plot size and monument regulations; one speaker noted plot dimensions in the ordinance as 8 by 5 (noted during the discussion).
Both the ordinance (2025‑18) and the corrected cemetery resolution (R2025‑19) passed on recorded roll calls during the meeting. The council directed staff to keep the town's code and ordinance references aligned to avoid conflicting information in the future.
