Council approves payment for two radar speed signs, discusses placement

The Cleveland Town Council voted on Nov. 13 to pay roughly $7,300 for two solar-powered radar speed signs that are intended to help slow traffic approaching town. Council members confirmed the budget line item for the purchase and moved to pay the bill during the meeting.
Members spent time discussing where to place the signs: options included near the town speed sign by the welcome sign, between the DeMar and Genesis driveways, or further out where drivers typically speed. Concerns raised included tree cover blocking solar panels and the need for a level installation site. “We'll look for the most level spot,” one council member said during the placement discussion.
The purchase was on the bills list and the motion to pay bills, which included the radar-sign payment, was moved, seconded and approved by roll call. Staff were instructed to have the signs installed in the selected site(s) and to coordinate with the fire department staff currently storing the units.
Next steps: staff will finalize placement, schedule installation and update the council when the signs are operational.
