Holden council discusses roads, signs, landfill work and equipment service

Council members used the Sept. 10 meeting to review several public-works and facilities items and to direct staff to collect bids and schedule follow-up work.
On roads, members said fall is the usual time to procure crack-seal work and agreed to start collecting bids in October with work likely in December. A member noted the town has funds for the work and suggested looking for grant opportunities where possible.
Signage was raised as a separate item: several road signs are faded or have fallen (one by the Lodges cemetery) and members asked Public Works to estimate costs. Speaker 4 presented two sign bids (one around $2,300 and a smaller option near $505–$600) and discussed materials (aluminum, board backing, plexiglass) and longevity.
The council also planned a scheduled burn at the landfill in November, followed by creating a new construction pit. Members recommended preventive servicing for the town backhoe before warranty thresholds are exceeded and asked staff to request a quote from Mason’s for a tune-up.
Other items included a cellular trail camera the town obtained for monitoring and a proposed repainting of the town building; staff were asked to photograph the building and present color samples for approval. Council directed Public Works to collect bids and return with cost estimates and schedules for the next meeting.
No formal votes were recorded on the maintenance items; the council provided direction to staff on next steps.
