Canaryville approves surge protector for well controls after water system update

A quoted equipment/installation estimate was discussed: the town heard the device itself was about $2,000 and installation could push total costs higher; one participant estimated installation around $4,500. Town staff clarified the surge arrestor would protect SCADA and control systems from lightning and power surges but would not prevent peak-demand charges billed by the regional utility.
To avoid waiting for another meeting if the device becomes available sooner, the board approved purchase and installation up to $3,000 so staff can order and install the unit when it arrives. Board members noted the device would not address the town's billing/peak-demand registration problem and said staff would continue to investigate that separate issue.
The board also discussed fire hydrant freezing and potential leaks; members asked for a hydrant inspection and follow-up maintenance to ensure public-safety readiness for winter.
