Hurricane police detective recognized by Utah ICAC for work on child-exploitation case

Sete Allai, commander of Utah’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force, urged the Hurricane City Council Tuesday to recognize Detective Steve Johnson for his work on investigations that led to a child rescue earlier this year.
“All of us, your fellow brothers and sisters in blue, appreciate the hard work that you do,” Sete Allai said as he introduced Johnson and Sergeant Ecola De Los Santos. Allai described how federal cyber tips from providers such as Snapchat and Google are routed to ICAC and investigators statewide, and he said Utah’s single ICAC unit has coordinated with 91 agencies and more than 200 task-force officers.
Allai highlighted a recent investigation that traced child sexual abuse material to a repeat offender and led to an arrest in Ivins, saying the case exemplified the task force’s mission: saving children. Hurricane city officials and police leadership joined the recognition and took a group photo with the award recipient.
The council did not take any formal action beyond the recognition. The presentation underscored the reliance of local police on statewide ICAC resources and the role of digital platform cyber tips in initiating investigations.
