Police Chief introduced Britney Wright as the city's in‑house victim advocate and said the role has been important for response to domestic violence, suicides and traumatic incidents. "She's been awesome," the chief said, noting that the role was restored with a VOCA grant and that lieutenant Hall helped secure the funding.
Britney Wright described the scope of the work she performs: helping crime victims with emergency funds, counseling referrals, protective orders and court paperwork. "The VOCA grant funds, like, 80% of the victim services," Wright said, adding that the remainder of services are provided as needed and that some victims decline help. Wright has served in the role since July and provided quarterly statistics showing domestic violence and protective‑order assistance among the most frequent needs.
Council members praised the work, with one council member saying many cases would not progress without the advocate's help filling court forms correctly. The council did not take formal action; the presentation was delivered for information and appreciation of the restored position.
