The Richfield Planning & Zoning Commission voted to approve a conditional-use permit allowing an accessory building (non-incidental) for Kelly Crane at 461 West 2200 South.
Applicant Kelly (identified in the hearing) described plans for a steel building with 15-foot walls and a 22-foot peak intended for equipment and vehicle storage. Several neighbors said they were concerned the building could appear commercial if a house is not constructed in a timely way. Resident Russ asked whether there is a deadline requiring a house be built after the accessory building; staff said the current code does not include a sunset clause obligating construction of a house within a set period.
Commission discussion focused on appearance standards, setbacks and whether the structure met the residential requirements for the zone. Member May moved to approve the conditional-use permit and a second was recorded; the motion carried by voice vote.
The commission did not record a specific time requirement for building a house after the accessory building; any follow-up on design or compliance will occur through the city's building-permit and technical-review processes.
