Board approves bus purchase, wireless upgrade and LEA-specific hire

The Wasatch County School Board on Monday approved multiple procurement and personnel items, including a school bus purchase, a wireless access point upgrade for secondary schools, and an LEA-specific educator license for a new hire.
Director Sean Kelly recommended the purchase of one Bluebird bus under a state contract for a final price of $221,728, which the district intends to place in the extracurricular fleet and rotate into service as needed. Kelly said the buses include surveillance cameras and backup cameras and noted future plans to equip buses with tablets showing routing maps. "I am requesting for a final purchase of $221,728 for the purchase of 1 bus," Kelly said.
The board also approved technology upgrades recommended through an RFP from Summit Partners totaling $134,430.01 to replace wireless access points at the high school and two middle schools. Technology staff said the devices are current-generation units (Aruba brand) and will support more student connections and higher speeds; staff noted the district expects to receive E-rate funding and likely pay about half the cost after reimbursement.
In addition, the board approved an LEA-specific educator license for a new hire at Timpanogos Intermediate School, a personnel mechanism that permits the district to license a candidate who does not yet hold a state license but has specific expertise.
All items were moved, seconded and approved by voice votes during the meeting.
