Local resident urges board to prioritize teacher and staff pay in upcoming executive session

During public comment, Tom Hanson of Midway urged the Wasatch County School Board to make teacher and staff compensation a priority in the board’s forthcoming executive session. Hanson said the district’s status as "best in state" depends on educators and staff and that about 1,000 district employees rely on the board’s stewardship of pay and benefits.
"This district is the best in state... That student achievement comes through one thing and one thing only, your educators," Hanson said. He told the board that to sustain momentum and morale, the board must "take care of your employees" and cautioned that failing to do so could reverse gains.
Board members acknowledged Hanson's history of advocacy for teacher pay and thanked him for his remarks; the board then proceeded to action items and later made a motion to move into executive session.
