District approves RingCentral hosted-voice contract to replace aging phone system

The Wasatch County School Board approved a recommendation to contract with RingCentral for hosted voice (VoIP) services to replace an aging phone system that district staff said contains elements more than 15 years old.
Dustin Miller, who presented the RFP results, said the scoring committee evaluated about 10–11 proposals and recommended RingCentral, with a price the committee assessed at $5,700 per month over a 60-month term. Staff emphasized improvements in reliability, redundancy and new features such as the ability for authorized staff to text parents from school numbers and to use phone services on personal devices when offsite. "This will give them that capability, the ability to use it on any device, anywhere," Miller said.
Board members questioned handset counts, failover capability and how scoring accounted for functional requirements versus price. Miller said the committee first scored technical and functional criteria; pricing was considered after proposals met those needs. He estimated the system would cover about 750 users and carry roughly 1,400 phone numbers; additional handset purchases may come back to the board.
A motion to approve the RingCentral contract was moved, seconded, and approved on a voice vote.
