Assembly recognizes retiring staff Daryl Thomas and holds adjournment in memory for former legislator David Kelly

The California State Assembly used floor time on 2026-01-13 for several ceremonial items, including recognition of retiring staff, guest introductions and an adjournment in memory.
Assemblymember Gallagher rose to recognize Daryl Thomas, noting his long service as chief consultant to the Assembly Republican Caucus and his prior work as a legislative consultant and attorney. "Thank you Daryl for your exceptional service to our members and the people of California," Gallagher said, and members in the gallery — including Thomas’s family and caucus staff — were acknowledged.
Earlier in the session Assemblymember Lee introduced a cohort of high school participants in the Assembly’s Young Legislator program and Assemblymember McKinnon welcomed his district office team visiting Sacramento.
Later, Assemblymember Jeff Gonzales delivered an adjournment-in-memory speech for former legislator David Kelly, outlining Kelly’s birth date, military service, career in agriculture, and decades of public service. "I thank former legislator David Kelly for a lifetime of service to California and to our nation," Gonzales said. Members were asked to submit names to be printed in the journal.
After those memorial and ceremonial items the Assembly made routine announcements (committee scheduling) and adjourned until Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m.
