Assemblymember Mark Gonzales introduced the measure, noting the date commemorates more than a century of Korean immigration and community-building in California. "I rise today to present ACR 118 recognizing 01/13/2026 as Korean American Day," he said, and recounted local landmarks and civic contributions.
Members from the Asian American and Pacific Islander and Black caucuses supported the resolution, highlighting Korean American cultural, civic and business contributions across the state and the importance of cross-community solidarity. The clerk opened the roll for coauthors and reported 67 coauthors; without objection the Assembly took a voice vote and the presiding officer declared the resolution adopted.
The resolution is a nonbinding floor recognition and does not create statutory requirements. The Assembly proceeded to the consent calendar and other business after adoption.
