The Merrimack Zoning Board on April 30 approved a special exception to permit a physical‑therapy medical office at the former Sovereign/Indian Head bank building at tax map 5D‑4‑91. Michael Hanning told the board the proposed operator (Elite Rehab) would not significantly alter the exterior and expects fewer vehicle trips than the prior bank use.
Hanning said the facility would have two employees and see about 20–25 patients per weekday, with reduced hours on Fridays and no weekend operation. "The building won't change," he told the board, noting only minor signage and the possible enclosure of an existing drive‑through area.
Board members expressed support for reusing a vacant building in the town center. A motion to grant the special exception was made by Rod, seconded by Wolf; the motion carried with the usual condition that the petitioner proceed to Planning Board site plan review.
The applicant must now complete site plan approvals and any building code updates required for a change of occupancy before opening.
