Committee narrows SB677 as follow‑up to SB79; cities and agencies press for clearer transit definitions

She said the bill “does not go far enough” for Paramount’s needs because transit stops eligible under SB79 can overlap in ways that limit alternative‑plan options.
Mark Newburger of the California State Association of Counties and multiple regional transportation agencies and business groups echoed the call for clearer definitions and mapping specifications. Supporters including Greenbelt Alliance, Housing California and many cities said narrowing the bill and creating a follow‑up process would provide time to reconcile technical concerns.
The author accepted amendments narrowing SB677 and agreed to pursue a separate, later bill for the remaining SB79 issues. The committee voted to send the amended measure to local government.
