Residents, teachers and students thank L'Anse Creuse board; teacher group honors HR leader VanCamp

Speakers at the Jan. 26 meeting used the public-comment period and presentations to reflect on Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy, recognize students and thank longtime staff.
Michael Lynch, who identified himself as a resident near Yaks Elementary, said Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy "is not just a legacy from a history book. It's a living, breathing legacy that affects all of us in our families." Lynch urged the board to treat the holiday as an active reminder of civil-rights history.
Kelly McDevitt, president of the L'Anse Creuse Education Association, expressed appreciation for Mike VanCamp's decades of service, listing roles he has held in the district including assistant superintendent for HR and noting his leadership in collective bargaining, evaluations and personnel matters. Student leaders from L'Anse Creuse North DECA and student council presented gifts and thanked the board for supporting student activities; the board invited photo opportunities and publicly congratulated the student groups.
Superintendent Keith and other board members thanked the students, staff and Mr. VanCamp, noting the value of continuity and the district's appreciation of his service. Several board members offered short farewell remarks and best wishes for VanCamp's retirement.
