Assemblymember Ashkara/Assemblymember Kalra presented ACR 71 to designate a portion of State Route 101 in Santa Clara County as the Little Saigon Freeway, highlighting San Jose’s large Vietnamese American community and the cultural, historical and economic significance of the area.
Multiple community leaders and organizations, including Van Le (East Side Union High School District) and representatives of the United Vietnamese American Community of Northern California, spoke in favor. Committee members praised the resolution; Senator Richardson moved the resolution and the committee adopted it to the committee on Appropriations.
