Homer Glen agrees to fund temporary signage for Grove Valley Center with grant condition

The Village of Homer Glen approved a staff recommendation to fund a temporary wayfinding sign for Grove Valley Center on South Bell Road to help tenants while construction and roadwork continue.
Staff and trustees said the strip mall owner previously received county funds toward a permanent sign but the construction is not complete. Janie Patch and trustees argued a temporary sign will help local businesses and customers navigate the site during construction. Trustee Fialco said the village would hold the owner ineligible for future commercial facade grant funding for signage because the village would be fronting the temporary sign cost.
After discussion the board amended the motion to condition the village payment on exclusion of the permanent plaza sign from the village’s commercial building improvement grant program. The amendment and the motion to fund the temporary sign carried by roll call. Trustees described the action as a short‑term, business‑retention measure to ease access confusion and support small businesses impacted by nearby roadwork.
The board instructed staff to document the funding source (general fund/admin signage line item) and advised staff to coordinate with the finance director on implementation details.
