Homer Glen selects Playtopia for Old Oak Park playground design; board OKs $250,793 design procurement

The Village of Homer Glen approved a recommendation Nov. 18 to award Playtopia the design, procurement and eventual installation of playground equipment at Villas of Old Oak Park, with the design/award phase capped at $250,793.40.
Trustee Rose Reinders, who chairs Parks & Recreation, said the committee unanimously recommended Playtopia and noted the project is budgeted at $250,000 with grants sought to cover additional inclusive elements such as a pour-in-play surface and a small pavilion. Reinders said the plan meets ADA guidelines and that the committee’s preference is to secure grants to add amenities for accessibility and shade.
Trustees discussed optional extras and warranty/manufacturing origins. Trustee Fialco asked whether materials are U.S.-made where possible; staff said recycled components are U.S.-made but some metal parts may be foreign-sourced and that they will seek to maximize U.S.-made content where practical. The board emphasized it will see the final contract and attorney review before any construction begins.
The board approved the procurement recommendation by roll call. Manager Joe Baber and parks staff will proceed with final design negotiations and seek grant funding before returning a contract for attorney review and final board approval.
