Homer Glen board creates pipeline subcommittee to oversee tree clearing and maintenance

The Village of Homer Glen on Nov. 18 voted to create a pipeline subcommittee to address residents’ concerns about pipeline maintenance and tree clearing.
The board unanimously approved formation of the subcommittee and amended Standard Operating Procedure No. 001 to add the new panel. Trustees Rose Reinders and Sue Stylin will serve as co-chairs; resident members named by the mayor are Mike McGee, Dave Buckley and Margaret Sabo. The board noted Brett Westcott will serve as the staff liaison.
Trustee Kurt Mason and others said the village contains more pipeline infrastructure than many residents realize and argued a dedicated subcommittee will help “do our due diligence” and protect trees and sensitive areas. Trustee Councilino, who will co-chair the panel, said she supports making the subcommittee flexible in schedule — meeting more during active issues and otherwise quarterly.
Trustees debated whether the subcommittee should be permanent or temporary and whether it should meet monthly; the board left meeting frequency to the co-chairs and approved the appointments by roll call.
The ordinance change to SOP 001 passed in the same vote sequence so the subcommittee will be formally included in committee rosters. The board did not adopt specific work products or deadlines at the meeting; trustees said staff will return recommendations on scope and schedule to the environment committee and full board.
