The Finance Committee on Oct. 21 approved staff’s recommendation to purchase a new airport shuttle van at $109,827 from the bidder whose vehicle was in stock and met operational door-width and length specifications.
Staff said five bids were received, ranging from $102,500 to $135,009.89. Although the recommended vendor was not the low bidder, staff favored the in‑stock vehicle to avoid a lengthy lead time for the low bidder and noted the recommended van fit the fleet’s technical needs. The purchase was within the $125,000 budgeted amount; staff said the replaced van will be sold at auction.
Mike Morin, the city’s fleet maintenance director, told the committee that warranty work on the Chevy product can be handled at any local dealership and that his shop sometimes performs body-manufacturer warranty work and is later reimbursed.
A motion to purchase the recommended van was moved, seconded and passed without objection, per the meeting transcript.
