Chair Susan Dean presented an order to accept a $7,500 donation from Fidelity Charitable on behalf of the named charitable fund and staff recommended designating the funds for Bangor residents in need, to be administered by the Department of Public Health and Community Services.
"Staff recommends use of funds for Bangor residents in need of assistance through the Department of Public Health and Community Services," Stephanie Kimball said, explaining the funds will help residents facing increased need attributed in part to federal government shutdown impacts on SNAP and LIHEAP benefits.
Committee members asked about the donation's frequency and whether the same group is the recipient each year; staff said the city receives these funds about once a year and the donor and administrators decide the designation. A committee member asked for end-of-year accounting so the committee can see how donated funds were spent; Kimball said staff can provide that information.
A staff member moved the item forward to the full council for final acceptance and appropriation. The Finance Committee did not record a final acceptance vote at this meeting; the contribution will appear on the council agenda.
