Santa Clara County board accepts certified Dec. 30 special runoff results and declares winner

The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 26 accepted the official certified results of the Dec. 30, 2025 special runoff election and unanimously declared the winner, the board said.

Nat Morales, the county’s registrar of voters, presented the paperwork to the supervisors and told the board, “You have before you the official certified results for the December runoff election. The code calls for the governing body to accept the certified results as well as declare the winner.” There were no public speakers on the item.

After the presentation, an unidentified member moved to approve the election results and another member seconded. The board then conducted a roll call vote: Supervisor Abakova — Aye; Supervisor Yoon — Yes; Supervisor Ellenberg — Yes; Vice President Arenas — Yes; President Lee — Yes. The motion carried.

An announcement followed that a swearing-in ceremony will be held this evening at Los Altos City Hall at 6:00 p.m.; board members then recessed to the scheduled closed session.

The acceptance of certified results fulfills the procedural requirement in state election law that a governing body formally acknowledge certified returns and declare the winner before related administrative steps, such as swearing-in, proceed.
