Council member Nussbaum questioned whether spending roughly $452,000 on lockers was prudent if the police department relocates soon. Chris Suss, assistant city engineer, said staff analyzed options with police and selected lockers that are industry standard and can be relocated to a future facility if the department moves. Deputy Chief Jody Wright told the committee the lockers are not “super fancy” but provide additional width and depth compared with the department’s current units and that the department has been storing equipment in rooms outside roll-call space due to limited storage.
When asked about funding, Suss said the project was identified in the adopted CIP and would use 2026 general obligation bonds under a facilities contingency line. Wright and staff said the lockers could be reinstalled at a new building, though relocation would require paying to remove and reinstall them. The committee approved the contract on a roll call vote.
