Lewandowski told the board he submitted six months' notice to allow time to bring in and train a successor, to complete required accreditation schooling and to ensure an orderly transition. "I was surprised I got my own line item for this, but, here I be," Lewandowski said.
Commissioner Rich Lennon, a member of the Veterans Affairs commission, thanked Lewandowski and credited him with helping bring substantial veteran-related funds into the county. "Last year alone, there was over $34,000,000 came into Webster County for veterans affairs money," Lennon said, adding that about $11,700,000 was received to support veterans in the county.
Madam Chair moved to receive and place the resignation on file; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The board did not specify a timeline for hiring or appointing an interim director; Lewandowski said the six-month notice is intended to allow recruitment and training. The board recorded its appreciation for his years of service.
Next steps for staffing and recruitment were not detailed at the meeting; the board's approval simply placed the resignation on file and noted the effective date.
