District assessment staff presented the annual NWEA MAP insight report during the Aug. 12 meeting, reporting that Glen Ellyn SD 41 showed growth in both reading and math for 2023‑24 and that every building placed in a "high achievement, high growth" quadrant.
"This year we showed growth in all areas and we are now in the high achieving high growth quadrant for both reading and math," said Dr. Webster during the presentation. Staff emphasized that the district also made progress closing achievement gaps among targeted subgroups and stressed the need to set rigorous, measurable goals for the coming year to ensure growth is meaningful academically.
When board members pressed for evidence of what interventions supported the gains, Dr. Webster pointed to strengthened MTSS (Multi‑Tiered System of Supports) processes and described targeted, tiered interventions: "The beauty of MTSS is that it depends on the needs of the individual student… it isn't the same for Molly as for Juan," she said. Staff added that this school year they are renewing emphasis on quality small‑group instruction and scheduled professional development for teachers on small‑group strategies focused on literacy and math.
Board members welcomed the positive results and asked for continued transparency: the full NWEA insight report is in the board packet and the district said the MAP indicators will be posted to the district dashboard the following day.
Next steps: district staff will work with the board and administrators to set specific growth targets for the year and monitor progress via the data dashboard and ongoing reporting.
