The Riverside Transit Agency presented a hero award on Nov. 20 to coach operator Dominique Vasquez for actions taken Oct. 16 to protect a high-school student from an aggressive passenger.
Board members described how the aggressor attempted to remove the student's hat and necklace and made physical contact. The bus operator intervened, called for law-enforcement response and helped secure the student's safety until officers apprehended the aggressor. "It was just all due to training," Vasquez said, thanking staff, including "Kristen" and "Audrey" for their support and praising RTA's training program.
The board presented a plaque and invited Vasquez's photo with board members and staff. The meeting adjourned later in memory of coach operator Brianna Lopez.
