County reports $2.1 million settlement for families who lost home in 2024 airport fire

At the conclusion of its closed session on Dec. 16, Orange County’s legal counsel reported the board unanimously approved a $2,100,000 settlement to claimants Thomas Lamothe and Louise Lamothe for losses they suffered in the Sept. 2024 airport fire.
County Counsel said the Lamothes lost their home and personal possessions in the fire; the settlement is subject to final approval of other parties and administrative steps. Counsel indicated that, when finalized, copies of the settlement agreement will be available through the Office of CEO Risk Management to any member of the public who requests them.
The board took no other reportable closed‑session action.
