Parks committee approves higher park rental fees, sets half-day windows

The Holly Springs City Parks and Recreation Committee approved proposed increases to park rental fees at a special-called meeting that began at 6:03 p.m., voting 3–0 to adopt the changes.

Unidentified Speaker 3, the presenter, told the committee that the city has faced rising upkeep costs and recent capital work in its park system. "We've had a, significant increase in maintenance cost throughout all of our parks, and we've also completed some upgrades to the parks," the presenter said, adding that the city had installed security cameras across its parks and completed renovations at JC Mullins.

The committee also approved a standard four-hour window for half-day rentals, to be offered either from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. or from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., which the presenter said will be reflected on the rental application: "we would also like to set times for our half day, park rentals to 4 hours and have it from 8 to 12 or from 12 to 4."

On pricing, the presenter noted that pavilion rentals—primarily at David Owens Park—are usually reserved in two-hour increments and proposed raising the pavilion rate from $12 to $20. Following brief discussion, Unidentified Speaker 2 moved to approve the proposed park rental fees; Unidentified Speaker 1 seconded. The motion passed 3–0.
