TSA names Transbay center a Gold Standard facility; TJPA reports facility and leasing activity

Rodney Harris, the TJPA chief security officer, told the board that on Jan. 24 the Transportation Security Administration awarded the Transbay transit center a Gold Standard Award — one of two U.S. transit agencies recognized in 2024 for top scores across TSA’s security and emergency-preparedness baseline assessment.
"The gold standard award represents the highest level of recognition that TSA can grant to a transit agency," Harris said, crediting contract security professionals and the San Francisco Police Department for their roles in the program.
Harris also reviewed contract-security performance measures recorded during the reporting period: an approximate 33.2% turnover rate, a 97.6% staffing rate using flex officers, and an overall testing score near 91.79%.
Ari Walsh, TJPA facility director, updated the board on programming and leasing. Walsh said the center hosted more than 1,200 attendees for a Beer Week kickoff event, ran new arts and storytelling programs, and is working with potential tenants including Bare Bottle and a juice bar. He reported a slight decline in vacancy from 7.9% to 7.7% and said staff are preparing to market P1 event space to generate revenue.
Board members offered congratulations and noted the award and active event programming as positive signs for the facility’s operations.
