New London council authorizes $764,879.67 in bills, approves contracts and appointments

Mayor Mark Erder asked the council to consider two items that required motions and seconds. Council adopted an ordinance amending municipal code 2.01 to adjust the schedule/start time of regular council meetings (first reading) by unanimous vote. The council also approved the appointment of Troy Herter to the planning commission to fill a vacancy; the vote on that appointment was recorded as 8 yes, 1 abstain and 1 no.
City clerk Cole Ryerson told the council that ballots for the upcoming presidential election were ready before the deadline and that absentee ballots were mailed that morning to over 260 requestors. "If you have requested an absentee ballot, keep your eye out in the mail," Ryerson said, and provided resources for voter registration in Wisconsin.
The meeting concluded after routine reports from the city administrator, police and public works and a motion to adjourn passed.
The council’s actions were primarily procedural or initial (first-reading) steps; items such as the solicitor licensing amendment will return for subsequent readings as required by municipal ordinance.
