Board approves several grants for specialty courts and programs including new SAMHSA award

By roll call, commissioners authorized the county to accept the Community Corrections grant for fiscal year 2025 and a new federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) grant covering 2024–2029. Sarah Applegate, who appeared to answer questions, said the SAMHSA grant is a "brand new grant" and confirmed it would allow the county to increase the number of participants served in specialty-court programs.
Commissioners also approved state court administrative office grants for fiscal year 2025. Votes on the grants were recorded as carried on roll call; commissioners said the grants were included in relevant budgets and that staff would track the grant funding within court and specialty-court budgets.
No significant dissent was recorded; commissioners thanked staff for their work preparing grant materials and noted anticipated increases in service capacity tied to the new federal award.
