Committee endorses mayor’s Region 1 school‑board nominee Andrew Bramson

The Providence City Finance Committee on Jan. 27 voted to endorse the mayor’s nominee for Region 1 on the Providence Public School Board, Andrew Bramson.
Clerk read the mayor’s communication appointing Bramson to a term expiring Jan. 1, 2029. Bramson was sworn in and told the committee he has nearly 25 years of nonprofit experience in education, serves as CEO of Onward We Learn and is chair of the Central Falls School Board. “I’ve been a Providence resident for nearly 25 years,” Bramson said, describing work in early care, third‑grade reading, middle‑school social and emotional development, curriculum and college access programs.
Committee members asked about Bramson’s plans to serve concurrently on the Central Falls board while transitioning. Bramson said he intends to serve there for a short period (through the end of the school year) to ensure continuity during the opening of Central Falls’ new high school and then step away to focus on Providence. On charter schools, Bramson said he aims to make Providence Public Schools attractive so families choose them, and he said he would hold charter schools to strong accountability standards.
Vice Chair Jim Taylor moved to approve the nomination; the committee voted unanimously. The committee’s approval means Bramson’s nomination will be placed on the full council agenda for final confirmation.
If confirmed by the full council, Bramson will take the Region 1 seat vacated when the prior member’s term expired.
