Board issues Law Day proclamation and honors local service organizations

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors used part of its April 29 meeting to present a series of community proclamations, led by an annual Law Day recognition.
The board proclaimed May 1, 2025, as Law Day. Presiding Judge Tom Nixon said Law Day offers a chance “to examine how the law works to protect our freedoms, achieve justice, and to ensure our way of life.” He thanked the board for partnership with the Superior Court and praised the county mock trial program.
Other proclamations included May as Foster Care Month, recognizing about 700 children and 230 young adults in county foster care; Older Americans Month, with the Area Agency on Aging noting more than 377,000 residents age 60 and older in Alameda County; and May as CalFresh Awareness Month, noting the county serves more than 111,000 households. The district attorney’s office accepted a proclamation recognizing National Crime Victims Rights Week and highlighted victim services and recent listening sessions. The board also recognized the Alameda Boys & Girls Club on its 75th anniversary and observed Public Service Recognition Week.
Board members and representatives from partner organizations accepted proclamations, urged public engagement with programs, and invited the public to upcoming events such as the countywide older‑adult plan hearing set for June 6 at the San Leandro Library.
