The Alameda County Board of Supervisors unanimously proclaimed July 19, 2025, as Safe Kids Day and recognized the county coalition that provides injury‑prevention education and free safety equipment.
Supervisor Nate Miley read a proclamation describing preventable injuries as a leading cause of death for children in the U.S. and naming Alameda County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) as the lead agency for Safe Kids Alameda County. Kat Wilbright, Injury Prevention Program Manager for Alameda County EMS, described the coalition’s work and said last year the coalition reached more than 275,000 county residents, distributed thousands of pieces of safety equipment, and deployed more than 3,000 volunteer hours.
Community partners detailed planned services: AAA of Northern California will supply free booster seats and car seat inspection resources; Sutter Health and Alameda Health System (Highland Hospital) will provide bicycle helmets and a helmet‑decorating station; Falk will host ambulance tours and life‑saving skills demonstrations; Eden Medical Center will donate 500 helmets for distribution. Kat Wilbright gave event timing and location: July 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Coliseum parking lot and inside the venue.
Speakers emphasized prevention and partnerships. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure," Wilbright said, and partners highlighted practical giveaways and trainings—from booster seats to hands‑only CPR.
The proclamation recognized participating sponsors and encouraged residents to attend and access free equipment and education.
