The Healthcare Workforce Training Commission's director asked the Senate subcommittee for a targeted, short-term appropriation to manage ARPA closeouts and sustain the agency’s largest programs. The director said the ARPA-funded grants director’s role ends in December 2026 and requested approximately $50,000 to retain that staff member for six months to complete audits and reimbursements.
The commission also proposed expanding its physician loan-repayment program by increasing the number of sponsored slots, contingent on partner organizations (TSET, OSMA, Blue Cross Blue Shield) increasing their matching slots. The director said program vetting is rigorous, awardees must document payments and loan reductions, and the commission has not found evidence of fraud.
Committee members asked for documentation of audits and program rules; the director said that documentation can be provided. Lawmakers did not take immediate action.
