Bedford Area Welcome Center marks 20th anniversary with Oct. 29 open house

Nicole Johnson, director of tourism for Bedford County, announced an open-house celebration for the Bedford Area Welcome Center’s twentieth anniversary and described recent facility upgrades.
Johnson said the Welcome Center originally opened to the public on 10/29/2004 and that the county will mark the milestone with an open-house-style celebration on Tuesday, October 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. "We are getting ready to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Bedford Area Welcome Center," she said.
The director described the center’s architecture as intentionally styled to echo parkway lodges and local farm structures and mentioned exterior details including "Clapford siding in Cupola." She said interior improvements completed this year include a new large photo wall, a visitor courtesy desk and a kiosk to navigate the destination Bedford website.
Johnson said the center draws roughly 30,000 visitors a year and that, with help from volunteers, the welcome center is open seven days a week most days of the year. "They explore the region starting at the welcome center," she said, and added that staff and volunteers look forward to serving the community "for years to come."
