Thompson School District to launch sixth annual climate and culture survey on Oct. 13

Brett Heller, superintendent of Thompson School District R-2J, announced that the district will launch its sixth annual climate and culture survey beginning Oct. 13 and asked students, staff, families and community members to take part.

Heller said the online survey is designed to provide the district with actionable information about programming, staffing and processes. "We use the data from these surveys to make informed decisions about our programming, staffing, and processes," he said, adding that the tool is meant to support continuous improvement.

The district said the survey was "collaboratively created with a wide group of stakeholders" and will collect feedback on subjects the district described as crucial to school success and student well-being. Heller specifically invited students in grades 3 through 12 to reflect on social and emotional skills, relationships with teachers and how safe and supported they feel at school.

Heller also encouraged teachers and staff to participate so the district can better understand professional-development needs and leadership relationships, and asked families and community members to share perceptions of district priorities and communication. "Your voice matters. Your feedback is our roadmap," he said.

Logistics: the district said the survey will be available online, will take only a few minutes to complete, and will be supplemented this year by shorter monthly check-ins intended to provide more timely feedback throughout the school year.

Heller closed by urging participation and thanking the community for its partnership and support. The district did not specify survey distribution mechanics (for example, email or in-class administration) or the deadline for responses beyond the Oct. 13 launch.
