At a Jan. 2 special meeting, Springdale Planning Commission members and staff discussed and prioritized the commission’s 2025 work program.
Staff presented a checklist grouped into four buckets: items already in process (accessory-structure revisions, water-conservation policies); previously prioritized items not yet started (FRVR height and size bonuses, setback guidance for swimming pools, A‑frame sign policy); new ideas (parking-standards revisions and parking in flood hazard areas); and broader general-plan goals. Staff recommended picking roughly eight to ten focus items for the year so the commission can accomplish substantive work.
Commissioners agreed the top priorities should include accessory-structure revisions, review of parking allowances for flood-hazard areas, and streamlining event-permit coordination between land-use and parks-and-rec services. Commissioners discussed splitting water issues into two topics—water rights and water‑conservation measures—and flagged FRVR height/size-bonus review and swimming-pool setback clarity as important follow-ups.
Staff said the town has received a grant and has begun a consultant study to explore car-free travel options and transit to and within Springdale; commissioners suggested pinning some parking-policy work to that study’s results. Staff will return with draft ordinance language and an updated priority list for commissioners to review.
The action items arising from the discussion were procedural: staff will compile the agreed priority list and bring revised language for high-priority items to future meetings for detailed review.
