Suncrest Middle School design presentation postponed; architect’s plans circulated
Summary
The Suncrest Middle School design presentation was postponed because the architect could not travel in the weather; plans were circulated to board members in advance and staff said the project likely cannot add square footage due to SBA limits and budget constraints.
The scheduled Suncrest Middle School design presentation was postponed at the Jan. 27 Monongalia County Schools board meeting because the architect could not travel in the weather, the superintendent said.
The superintendent said he had sent board members the plans in advance and encouraged board members to forward questions to the architect, Greg Martin, so the architect could prepare answers for the next meeting. "I did send you guys the plans," Unidentified Speaker 3 said, and asked members to submit questions they wanted addressed.
Unidentified Speaker 3 advised the board that the district likely cannot add any square footage to the plan because the project already exceeds what the SBA supports and additional square footage would increase costs; the district also noted the project appeared to be over budget before it is put out to bid.
Staff emphasized the design remains tweakable up until the project goes out to bid, but any additions in square footage would increase cost and may not be supported by the SBA. The board will revisit the presentation when the architect can attend in person.
