Los Alamitos council approves warrants and consent calendar; schedules financial information item for November

At its Oct. 21 meeting, the Los Alamitos City Council approved accounts and routine business and heard staff updates on infrastructure and cybersecurity.
A motion to approve the warrants passed after a roll call: Mayor Nafolda voted "Aye," Mayor Pro Tem Hasselbring "Aye," Council Member Dobie "Yes," Council Member Hibbard was recorded as "Absent," and Council Member Murphy voted "No." The presiding official announced the motion passed. The consent calendar was then moved, seconded and approved by voice vote with no items pulled.
City staff provided several operational updates. Development Services Director Ron Nota described a citywide residential street rehabilitation program with an estimated cost of about $2,000,000 that will use slurry seal or grinding/overlay techniques and is planned to start in the coming days with an aim to finish before Thanksgiving; he said 72‑hour no‑parking notices would be posted for affected streets and trash collection would not be interrupted. Police and the City Manager discussed personnel confidentiality and the city’s recent cyberattack: City Manager Simmons said the city experienced a cyber incident earlier in the week, but that critical systems were restored within 72 hours thanks to IT and prior council investments in security.
The council also agreed to move a discussion on the electronic delivery of financial information (requested by Council Member Hibbert) to the November meeting.
