Committee recommends Council advertise bids for Troy Aquatic Park maintenance

Jeffrey Wood, a member of the Recreation and Parks Committee, said the committee on Jan. 26 recommended that City Council authorize advertising for bids for a maintenance project at Troy Aquatic Park. Mr. Siler, speaking for the Troy Recreation Board, said the board requested the authorization to begin the procurement process.
The project is maintenance-only, Mr. Siler said: "the same footprint of the pool that you see now... no expansion." He described the work as largely behind-the-scenes repairs intended to keep the facility functioning for roughly the next 15 years.
Mr. Siler listed likely work items: concrete repairs, gutter and filtration-system work, replacement of pumps in the pump house, piping upgrades, replacement of a baby-pool heater and some minor bathroom repairs. The most visible change, he said, will be replacing a wooden structure between the two entrance buildings that is "starting to rot down around the base." Engineers and architects who assessed the facility recommended the scope of work; Mr. Siler said this is the largest project at the site since it opened about 22 years ago.
Miss Hickman recommended the committee proceed; Wood recorded that the committee was unanimous in its recommendation to proceed. The committee did not record a roll-call vote or provide a dollar figure or construction timeline during the discussion. The recommendation will go to City Council for authorization to advertise for bids; no Council action is recorded in this transcript.
