Fraser volunteer groups recap Polar Plunge, announce Blue Jean Ball and sold-out family activities

Volunteers from the Fraser First Booster Club and the Fraser Beautification Club updated the Recreation Commission on recent and upcoming community events at the Jan. 6 meeting.
Laura Lessage, speaking for the Fraser First Booster Club, thanked city staff, public safety, DPW and volunteers for support of the Polar Plunge and said the fund-raiser brought in between $4,500 and $5,000. She named several sponsors and said the club plans the Blue Jean Ball for Feb. 7 at Vintage House (ticket $55) and a Trample the Trail walkathon on April 18 at Stephens Park. She also said the club hopes to move forward on a Stephens Park reimagining project that could include an amphitheater and walking path.
A representative of the Fraser Beautification Club reported planting projects completed in October (14 & Garfield clock area) and said the club’s next meeting is Jan. 12 at Ramshorn. Staff confirmed other events: 'Paws and Paint' on Jan. 17 (three sold-out time slots), 'Painting with a Twist' Jan. 31 (participants pay the host venue $25–$29, with a city partial subsidy for residents) and Family Fun Night Feb. 14 at Vintage House (free to residents; 107 of 200 slots filled).
Volunteers and residents praised Hanover Grove Cooperative for providing space for the BCSEM luncheon and for decorating; residents also offered suggestions (charging a small fee for some events to decrease no-shows) that staff said will be considered as part of software and budget discussions.
Next steps: staff will monitor cancellations for sold-out events and work with volunteers on upcoming fund-raisers and programming; any changes to cost or residency verification will be included in software/budget proposals for council consideration.
