Woburn committee honors longtime staff, adds supporting correspondence to record and dedicates conference room
Summary
The committee approved dedications recognizing long-serving educator Mr. Dougherty and Superintendent Joe Crowley, voted to add supporting letters to the public record and noted a member’s recusal from the Crowley vote to avoid an appearance of impropriety.
The Woburn School Committee on Jan. 28 approved two dedications and formally entered supporting correspondence into the public record.
Archives Room dedication: Members moved to dedicate the WMHS Archives Room to Mr. Dougherty in recognition of decades of service. A letter to the committee from Dr. Elizabeth Conley and remarks from staff praised Mr. Dougherty’s long career, community programs and mentorship. Committee members described witnessing student activities tied to Mr. Dougherty’s programs and said the dedication was well deserved.
Correspondence: A committee member moved to add the Conley letter and other supporting correspondence into the public record; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Superintendent Conference Room dedication and recusal: The committee also voted to dedicate the Superintendent’s Conference Room in honor of Joe Crowley. One member stated they would recuse themselves from that vote to avoid an appearance of impropriety because Joe Crowley is their father; the committee proceeded with the voice vote and approved the dedication. Committee staff will coordinate logistics with the Crowley family.
Why it matters: The votes formalize public recognition of long‑time contributions to district programs and ensure that supporting correspondence becomes part of the permanent record for future reference.
