County pays $17,000 for Hays maintenance; Fraser gets DTE LED conversion credits

City staff told Fraser City Council on Nov. 13 that the county has agreed to pay the city $17,000 per year to maintain grass at Hays, a service the city's public works department had provided for many years at no charge.
City Manager Levin and DPW staff also updated council on negotiations with DTE regarding streetlight conversions in the French Creek subdivision. Staff said a 2018 LED conversion left several decorative post lights without conversion kits; DTE agreed to supply conversion kits for the roughly 200 lights free of charge, which staff estimated at a $120,000 value. Staff reported finding a credit of about $14,000 on the city's October streetlight invoice and projected ongoing annual savings of roughly $15,000'$18,000 once conversions are completed. City staff said conversion kits are expected to arrive in 2026 and staff will provide further scheduling updates.
Council members thanked staff for negotiating the intergovernmental maintenance payment and for pursuing energy- and cost-saving measures with the utility.
