Recreation staff report vendor markets, parade logistics, staffing and senior programs

An unidentified recreation staff member briefed the Fraser Recreation Commission on summer market results, event logistics and staffing.
The staff member said the Sept. 27 vendor market closed the season with 22 vendors and that organizers plan to move next year’s market window to May–September to increase attendance. On events logistics, the staff member said the Oct. 26 parade will include roughly 27 groups and that the recreation department plans to pick up "roughly 200 donuts and enough cider to serve 200 people." The department is also scheduling a children’s educational program, "bugs on wheels," in November and two bus trips for seniors, including a sold-out trip to see the play "Dames at Sea" on Oct. 22.
On staffing, the report noted one senior-activity bus driver resigned; the department has a replacement candidate undergoing background checks and a physical and hopes to return to two drivers within one to two weeks if all checks clear. The staff member credited DPW and public safety staff for stepping in to cover services during the transition.
Commissioners asked for clarification about the bus-driver search and timing; staff said a candidate is in process and may begin after required clearances are completed.
