Junia Cuerio, chair of the Mount Clemens Beautification Advisory Committee, introduced committee members and outlined ongoing projects—including gateway gardens, the Triangle Garden and a planned Rose Walk that will commemorate Japanese immigrant contributions to the city’s rose-growing history—and presented the 2025 Snowflake Awards to seven homeowners. “Thanks so much for your efforts,” Cuerio said as she listed award recipients and thanked residents for decorating neighborhoods during the holidays.
During public participation, Jason Bernard (a resident and respondent with the Monzo Group to the waterfront RFP) clarified that his team’s proposal is a full-service package at a 4.75 percent fee and that it includes marketing, meetings with officials and determination of the property’s best use without additional charges. Eric Monzo, identified as owner/operator of Keller Williams Samanzo Group, said his firm has completed thousands of local real-estate transactions and asked the commission to consider their local stake in the waterfront site.
Under purchases and payments, city staff reported a plan to replace all lights at the Karnes Community Center with LED fixtures. Staff estimated work at about $21,000 and said the expense will be reimbursed under a HUD grant. The commission also approved the consent agenda and routine invoices as presented.
City Manager Shipman announced that Mount Clemens will host the Michigan Downtown Association annual networking event in downtown Mount Clemens in September 2026, reminded residents of Martin Luther King Jr. Day office closures, tree pickup dates and dog license requirements, and highlighted upcoming community events including the Fire & Ice chili cook-off and ice carving, and the Made in Michigan Art and Craft Show.
The meeting closed after commissioner remarks and a motion to adjourn.
