Mount Clemens plans finalist interviews for city hall and fire station design RFP

City staff told the Mount Clemens City Commission work session that a separate RFP seeking design services for a new city hall and fire station drew strong interest at a mandatory walkthrough and that staff expects to narrow respondents for commissioner interviews.
"We had about a dozen that attended it," Mr. Shipman said of the mandatory walkthrough, noting that does not guarantee all attendees will submit bids but that he expected "at least 6 or 8 if not more." He proposed trimming the list to the top three or four firms and bringing finalists to a work session for interviews and project‑site reviews.
Commissioners asked that staff provide the selection criteria and a short summary explaining reasons for disqualifying any respondents. Shipman said the RFP requires designers to interview departments, conduct building walk‑throughs and hold at least one public meeting, and that each design phase will require city approval before construction bidding.
No contract awards or final selections were made at the session; staff will review proposals when they arrive, report back to commissioners, and schedule interviews of finalists if warranted.
