Mount Clemens approves placing delinquent utility and general bills on tax roll

The Mount Clemens City Commission voted to place two special-assessment rolls on the 2025 winter tax roll: special assessment roll 25-05 for delinquent utility bills ($16,006.52) and roll 25-06 for delinquent general bills ($114,665.83).
City staff explained that the general-bill total includes sidewalk, weed-cutting, sanitation, vacant-registration and rental-registration charges and enforcement fees. Staff also noted that a 15% transfer fee applies to delinquent billings except sidewalk invoices; the city bases sign-material charges on the MDOT schedule and a $300 application fee was set by resolution to cover hearing-notification and administrative processing for naming requests.
A motion to approve the special-assessment rules and placement on the city winter tax roll was made, supported and called for roll call. The clerk recorded affirmative votes from the commissioners present and the motion passed. Staff said that once assessments are placed on the county tax roll, collection and any further assistance or appeals typically route through county processes and outside agencies such as Macomb Community Action for possible remediation assistance for residents.
What’s next: The clerk will finalize the assessment roll and staff will follow up on notices and any payment-plan inquiries from affected property owners.
