The Mount Clemens City Commission approved a renewal and revision of the contract with MedStar Ambulance Service to provide emergency medical services for the city for the period 2025–2030.
City staff said the agreement aligns with the revised departmental response and deployment plan and that both the fire chief and MedStar leadership will conduct regular quality-assurance and quality-improvement assessments to maintain response performance. The contract was reviewed and approved by the city attorney before the vote.
Commissioners asked whether there have been performance complaints. A county/department representative said only one complaint in the last two years had been investigated and found not to undermine the company's performance. On billing, the speaker explained that EMS billing is largely dictated by federal programs and large insurers: "EMS billing is largely dictated by the federal government — Medicare, Medicaid, and then your large insurance companies — that type of thing," and that the service's invoices are processed under those rules.
The commission approved the contract by roll call. Commissioners also requested that the MedStar fee schedule be provided to the commission and public for transparency on rates and billing practices.
