Mount Clemens residents ask city to help after driveway repair without permit fails

Sarah and Ryan Herder, longtime Mount Clemens residents at 630 Crest Street, told the commission that a driveway repair that predated their ownership was paved with asphalt without an apparent permit and is now deteriorating.
"We're here to address the driveway issue that I emailed everybody about," Sarah Herder said. She said she had sent photos showing the before, during and after of the repair and that she received a response from "Mr. Calhoun" but no further follow-up. She asked the city to work with the family because the failing approach is creating a new and expensive repair need for their home.
The Herders said they try to follow all permit rules and asked the city for help resolving what they described as an unexpected and large bill tied to the failing approach. The chair acknowledged the concern and asked staff to follow up.
What happens next: the Herders requested staff review the photos and prior email correspondence; staff was asked to follow up with the family and report back to the commission.
